When we were born-again, we were not just given a fire-escape or "get-out-of-hell-free-card." We were given eternal life in Christ Jesus, and invited to embark upon a journey that will lead us to a destination that God has planned for us from the foundation of the world. It is a place of abundant life-a life that is full, fruitful, and enjoyable. It is a place of blessing, peace, joy, health and success in life. It is living life the way God ordained…with a good marriage, strong families, and a sense of mission and purpose. Most of all, it is a vibrant relationship with God that translates into a life that represents, or “re-presents” His love and goodness to our world.
But, it’s not automatic. Just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean they'll pay their bills, treat others right, be a good parent, husband, wife, or live their lives in a manner that leaves a lasting mark for Christ on their soceity. It simply means they are going to heaven when they die. However, God wants more from us as His children.
The word “transformed” in Romans 12:2 is the Greek word “met-a-morph-foo,” meaning “completely changed into another form.” It implies that lasting change is a gradual process of development which allows the hidden potential to manifest or come forth. It occurs we as allow what God has deposited on the inside to work its way to the outside. The patterns and habits of the old life must be replaced with Godly principles and standards. It demands that we nurture our walk with God and deliberately choose to yield to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to change us from the inside out.
We are either being “transformed” into His image and plan for our lives or we are being “conformed,” or squeezed into the mentality of this age. The choice is up to us, and the determining factor is what we do, or fail to do about how we think.
